This is an amazing and well-written book. Ruth Phypers has accomplished the difficult task of making her torturous – yet fascinating – personal journey our story as well. Even if you have never taken drugs, jet-setted to exotic countries or had sex with any number (and gender) of fast and furious partners, Phypers takes the courageous step of looking inward to identify the forces that push us all in dangerous directions and, if we work hard enough, out into a peaceful, satisfying life.
Phypers tells her “Sex and the City”-type experiences with brutal honesty, an incredibly difficult journey where her advances are often mirrored by similar steps backwards. There is no knight in shining armor at the end of the road. But with therapy, a growing spiritual belief system and the pure physicality of yoga, she finally understands that her rescuer is herself. A universal lesson for anyone.
